MAXIS NERO GRANDE
Age: 46
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Personality: Grande (pronounced grand), is a man of honor and tradition. Someone who believes in fairness and honesty and integrity. He would make a good spokesperson for a law firm. However, in his efforts to uphold his own sense of honor, he is often times over-zealous, and even downright offensive. He looks down upon all those who don’t follow the same code that he does, and often gives off the impression of being holier than thou. In fact, even his name (Max Grand), screams ‘I’m better than you’.
Indeed, to the average person, that is exactly who he appears to be. A self-righteous douche, who refuses to accept anyone who doesn’t abide by his rules. A badass douche, but a douche, none the less. Though, he is highly respectful to any who shows the same care and pride and fairness that he does. His own code is rather extensive; he doesn’t interfere in his pokemon’s battles, and he never uses multiple pokemon at once. He believes battles should be one-on-one, and fair. In extreme cases (times of war, or self-defense), he might kill an opposing trainer, but he would never willingly kill that trainer’s pokemon. They are just animals, soldiers following orders. Instead, he would release them once their owner has been defeated. In short, while he is self-righteous, and views himself as superior than most others, he is still genuinely a good person at heart.
His code actually serves him quite well in his role of Vizier to the Imperator of Valena. In his leadership role, he has been able to express his beliefs freely to the people of Valena. Whether this has had any effect on the culture or society of the land remains to be seen. Either way, Grande strives to achieve world peace through a mutual respect for each other and ourselves. A goal that is a tad ironic, given his superiority complex.
History: Maxis Grande was born and raised in Samatan Fort in the plains of Valena. He never really knew his father, who had died when he was very young, and his mother had to put a lot of effort into her job to make ends meet financially for the little family, meaning that, growing up, Maxis didn't really get to spend much time with his parents. Maxis' mother had a top secret position in the military, or at least that's what she always told him. She often said it was vastly important, and she didn't have time to play with him. And so, he was often left to his own devices, wandering around the fort compound and entertaining himself by pulling pranks on the cadets. Occasionally, this would cause him to get in trouble, but usually he got away scotch-free. After all, the drill sergeants and instructors were trying to teach the cadets focus and determination; if they allowed themselves to be tricked by a little kid, then it was their fault, not Maxis'.
One day, his mother returned home with a pokemon. A ghostly ball with a blue-ish glow around it. Named Lil Blue, the Gastly became like a family pet. That Gastly was Mother-Grande's prized possession, and she treated it with just as much love and affection as she did Maxis himself. However, given the nature of his mother's secret work with the military, Lil Blue could not go with her. Maxis never quite understood what it was his mother did. He still doesn't know, even now, with all of his political pull. However, looking back on how poorly she was paid, he believes that she had lied to him at the time. She wanted to hide their financial troubles from him as a boy. In reality, Maxis suspected she was little more than a cafeteria worker.
Regardless of what mother Grande did, however, she was gone most of the day, leaving Maxis and Lil' Blue free to roam around town. They were the best of friends as children. But, then the time came for Maxis to move on with his life. He was seventeen, and by the time he had reached this age, he was not nearly as naive; he knew the financial stress his mother was under. He knew it was time for him to leave. And so, saying his goodbyes to his mother and Blue (who by this point had become a Haunter), Maxis left the fort, going out to see the world.
He traveled for a long while, on foot for the most part. It couldn't have been a month after he left, though, that he was set upon by a Seviper. Maxis had spent most of his life up until this point inside of a very sheltered fort, and while he was free to wander around the fort as he saw fit, he had never actually left it. Meaning, he had never actually seen a wild pokemon before. All the pokemon he had seen up until now had been pets, or belonged to the soldiers and the cadets. And so, when he first encountered this Seviper, he was unprepared, and unprotected...
He awoke, sometime later, in some foreign bed. A stranger had apparently found him in the wilderness, and brought him to where he rested now. He had been poisoned and injured though. It was a very close call, he was told. And, even though he managed to keep his life, he did lost his left eye. Had the Seviper bit any harder, the poison would have entered his brain, and he would have died. Maxis was extremely lucky. It was at this point that he decided he had best learn to defend himself. And so, for the next several years, Maxis learned the art of swordsmanship. At first, it was just self defense, to prevent him from losing any other body parts. But over time, he felt the genuine desire to better himself. Plus, it looked cool. That was always a good bonus to someone his age.
It took several years, but he did eventually find his way to the city of Shalaza, the capital of his homeland. Just in time, it seemed, to be called back home. Apparently his mother had been injured in some sort of accident while on the job, and he had to go and take care of her. His new life in the big city would have to wait.
It was on the trip back that a realization came to him. That near-death experience had changed him. No longer was he the childish boy he had once been. Perhaps it was his training with the sword, but he felt so much more respect towards his fellow man now, and to nature itself. The world was a lot more dangerous than he had originally thought. It wasn't his play-place anymore. And it wasn't until he was faced with his long-abandoned home, confronted with his former-self, that he realized just how much he had changed.
Blue, however, had not changed at all. One step into the house, and the Haunter had tackled Maxis, licking his face. Now, this would have been cute if it were a puppy, but seeing as Blue was a Ghost pokemon, it only caused Maxis' face to go numb. That was about the extent of the pleasantries, however. The following days were wrought with despair and sadness. Maxis' mother, on her deathbed, and Maxis doing everything he can to make her more comfortable.
The death was rather quick. But very emotional. For both Blue and Maxis. She was their mother, after all. Maxis' mother's last moments of life had her handing him Blue's pokeball, and telling them both to take care of each other. It was a very sad moment, very dramatic. It was also the moment that Blue evolved into a Gengar.
Decades have passed since then, and Maxis has long since put his past behind him. In an attempt to deal with his grief, he threw himself into the pursuit of honor and peace, and has never looked back, even taking on a large role in government, to actively shape the world more towards his idea of what it should be like. Blue, on the other hand, dove into her old pranks with a new fervor, hiding her pain behind a smile. The two of them remain inseparable, despite their vastly different attitudes towards the world.
A few years ago, during the revolt against the Kardova Monarchy, Grande was living in the capital, working in a shop. It was mere coincidence that he was at the palace at the time of the attack on the Royal family. He was attempting to get a permit to hand out fliers in the marketplace. Regardless of why he was there, it was most lucky that he was. When the attack happened, his military heritage took hold. True, he had never actually enlisted, but having grown up in a military installation, a target for enemy attacks, he was prepared for anything. With an even head, he took charge and directed the civilians and some VIPs to safety. One government official, noticing his efforts in the evacuation, offered him a job. And thus started Grande's political career.
Country of Residence: Valena
Allegiance: If it came to war, he would defend his homeland of Valena. However, his ‘allegiance’ is to peace.
Rank: Vizier of Valena
Additional Information: While never officially a soldier himself, having grown up on the Fort has engraved a good sense of tactics and discipline into him. He also knows how to use a sword, although, given his position as peaceful ambassador, he is rarely seen actually carrying one.
