History
Garuna
The past of this land goes beyond that of recorded history. The earliest records in any form of text are found in the secluded Ruins of Arcadia in the Burudyne Forest. They have only been partially translated, but what has been confirmed is the existence of Pokémon far supersedes that of human settlement on Garuna.
There is some debate as to if the symbols in the ruins were carved by humans…or something else.
The earliest verifiable records are held at the Grand Cathedral in South Garuna, recorded by ancient worshipers. They tell of a war-torn past and of human settlement starting on the Eastern side of Garuna, in land lush and full of life, slowly moving to the west.
Terunda
Terunda was the initial site of human settlement, although there is no hard record, but the long standing farmland and buildings are a strong indication of early human settlement. Terunda was the first country to be founded on the continent of Garuna.
The Moon River’s main deltas are in this area and allowed for profitable farming and the building of primitive textile mills using the water power. Terunda became a profitable land, Pokémon were initially prominent, but human settlement forced the Pokémon farther south.
Terunda was a thriving land, but due to its lack of mining resources the people were forced to move westward towards the mountains, leading to the discovery of new Pokémon.
Terunda Border
The Terunda border was set roughly a decade after the secession of Megidova from Terunda. Terunda, in fear of war spawning from the military heavy country, built a wall securing the land from invasion by Megidova, with two gates, one leading to Garuna Fields in the south, and one to Megidova in the West.
Both were, and still are, under heavy security.
Terunda Castle
This castle was built on an island in the center of a beautiful lake. The castle was built for the royal family that took up residence in Garuna.
Built out of stone hauled from the quarries at the small mountains in southern Terunda, the castle’s size isn’t nearly as impressive as the beauty of the location, beautiful carvings into the stone on the outer wall chronicle the growth of Terunda, providing a useful record of history.
The security in the castle is high, but hidden in a way that doesn’t detract from the beauty. It is not chronicled what security measures exist in the castle, but rumors say they rival Megidova Fort.
Preyala Village
Preyala Village is the main source of food to the kingdom. Its close proximity to the lake allows for irrigation to the already fertile lands, creating crops that could feed the kingdom twice over. In addition to the farmland the lake is plentiful with fish and shellfish, providing a sizable portion of Terundian diet.
This is the trade center of Terunda, often trading with Ardhana, will not trade with Megidova, or any citizens of Megidova.
Due to the economic necessity of Preyala Village to the Country of Terunda, the city is placed under high security, and a guard post inside the city allows those at the top to see for miles, an impending attack would easily be spotted long before it arrives.
The extensive security measures makes this town a prime location for the wealthy of Terunda to reside.
Hekaro Village
The capitol of Terunda, an entire kingdom heads here to shop as the variety is larger than anywhere else in the kingdom.
The high level of trade here forces the castle to send a great number of troops here to keep the peace and keep the level of crime at respectable levels. The security is so exceptional that crime is virtually non-existent.
The village became popular across the entire continent of Garuna. Prior to the war the citizens of Megidova traveled here for the great variety of trade goods.
Megidova
The second nation to exist on Garuna seceded from Terunda after a heated debate between the royal family ruling Terunda about the necessity of a war state.
Several members of the Terundian royal family left to head the new nation. This started a history of bad blood between the two nations which continues to this day in the form of war.
Megidova has high levels of mineral deposits in the mountains it is formed around. These resources were decidedly used to build metal weapons, as compared to the wooden weapons used in Terunda.
The prominence of these mountains is the general hardship of the nation of Megidova, as they are inhospitable for plants used for farming. The only farmland available is around Zionra Village. But unlike Terunda, the country makes just enough food to support its denizens.
This hardship has led Megidova to spearhead farming techniques such as irrigation into the drier grasslands south of Zionra, which alleviate the food shortages to a decent degree.
Megidova Border
The Megidova Border is less secure than the Terunda Border. The militant citizens are confident in the military’s ability to halt any offensive attack on the country of Megidova. The border with Terunda is not patrolled, save for the gate, which only Arhara citizens and merchants are permitted to enter.
Megidova Fort
The fort is impressive, to say the least, built right before the secession from Terunda. The entire Fort is carved directly out of the mountains, making breaking into it quite a feat.
This is where the Megidovan military takes place, and even though it is the second smallest nation, the training here is second to none. The mountainous regions where the training takes place makes them adept at moving across harsh terrain, making defense easy.
Supposedly there are catacombs beneath the Fort leading to storehouses of food and other supplies that the king is withholding from the citizens, there are rumors circulating around this, but proof is inconclusive.
Zionra Village
This town was the breadbasket of Megidova, surrounded by beautiful land suitable for farming, it became a thriving capitol. This capitol was known for its beauty and love of art prior to the war. The King’s violent nature caused the art-loving community to falter and eventually give away to the militarists.
Zionra, the once-beautiful capitol of Megidova, is now a shell of its former self, the beautiful frescos that once decorated the city are now degrading and the entire city is falling into ruin. Crime is running rampant in the city, with fights breaking out in all parts of the city. The only thing holding the city together is the military from Megidova Fort, which can get just as bad as the criminals.
Ahilao Village
This village is the main market in Megidova, nowhere near the size of the markets in Terunda and Ardhana, it lead a respectable career as a major marketplace in Garuna. Even today it exists as the most powerful economic power in Megidova.
Virtually untouched by the King’s corruption, Ahilao Village continues to be the most powerful source of trade for Megidova.
Ardhana
This country was formed when merchants around Garuna created a wealthy trade center known as Mullende Village, attempting to form a peaceful country that had no ties to the bad blood between Megidova and Terunda. One of the merchants was a descendant of an affair between the royalty of the two countries, and reluctantly took the throne.
Ardhana has a history of neutrality between the two warring countries, refusing to take sides was their political decision, but they continue to trade between the two warring countries, neither country is willing to stop them, afraid to lose the possibility of gaining an ally.
Ardhana Border
Lightly guarded, as Ardhana is not threatened by war, the border is little more than a waist high stone wall. The only road into Arhana has a small guardpost, which upon entering the guards share the mantra of the grand cathedral, “Leave the war outside.”
Citadel of Ardhana
The star-shaped city is the capitol of Ardhana. A castle is in the center of the commerce-based city. Surrounded by fort-like walls, it is the most secure city besides the palace. The sprawling city within was built over years, and the gates are always open.
The castle within is built out of beautiful white stones, glass, and decorated with gold, and is easily the most beautiful building in Garuna.
Royal Ardhana Palace
Although a castle exists in the Citadel, the true home of the royal family is here. Built on an island covered with forests, the island is connected to the mainland by a huge bridge spanning the chasm between the two.
The Palace is naturally guarded on the island by steep cliffs and sharp rocks on the base. Attack is not a great concern to the Ardhanan royalty.
Mullende Village
This village south of the Citadel and east of the Palace is the major homestead to those who live in Ardhana. The land is cheaper, and the village is the trade center for the entire continent of Garuna.
The Village is surrounded by farmland, which is the only land that is capable of growing a decent food supply in Ardhana besides the island that houses the Royal Ardhana Palace.
The nearby lake houses some fish, but as the lake is partially into the mountains, there are several underwater caves that are yet to be explored.
South Garuna
Designated as “uncolonizable” by Ardhana, Megidova, and Terunda, this is the land of the Pokémon. Although they are found in other parts of the continent, this is where trainers go to catch new Pokémon and test their skills. The land here is wild and beautiful, it is unmatched anywhere, and the ecosystem is so varied, it valued by all, and an attempt to claim the land for a country would cause violent eruptions from all countries.
Garuna Fields
These vast fields south of Terunda seem endless, one can walk for days and see scarcely anything but grass and wild Pokémon. Many battles take place here, destroying the delicate ecosystem, many wild Pokémon attempt to repair the tattered landscape, and do a wonderful job, until the next battle destroys another part of the land.
Moon River
This extensive river wraps around the entire continent of Garuna, breaking into several branches, this river gains water from all the mountains and natural springs, a beautiful river that frequently carries the blood of dead warriors and Pokémon out to sea.
Crescent Lake
This beautiful lake in the shape of a crescent moon is one of the few places in Garuna to be free from the taint of war. This lake is said to be a resting place of the legendary Pokémon, it is the purest water in all of Garuna.
Grand Cathedral
This ornate and massive cathedral the size of a village is set squarely in the center of the continent. It is declared Neutral property, and states that fact with the words “Leave the war outside” cared above it’s doorways. Pokémon and wayfarers seek sanctuary here. None are ever turned away, as the worshipers here have sworn an oath to care for those in need. The cathedral is said to be guarded by holy Pokémon, and, if destroyed, it is said the wrath of the Pokémon will destroy Garuna.
Memorial Spire
This spire nearby the Grand Cathedral is built to honor the Pokémon, and their trainers who have died in battle. The spire is said to guide the spirits upward, to rejoin the world again. The memorial spire is said to hold all the memories of those who died. Ghost Pokémon are prominent here.
Quelle Mountains
These mountains are the largest in Garuna, So large they are snow-topped, they hold many secrets in their stone. Many trainers have gone into the mountains, but less come out.
Magnetic Caverns
These caverns befuddle even the best scientists, they hold a magnetic charge, but no magnetic stones are found here, there is a theory that magnemite reside here, but none have ever been seen.
Mount Venya
The tallest peak in Garuna, none have ever successfully reached the peak, it is a mystery what is up there.
Garuna Glacier
This glacier on the side of Mount Venya is massive, covering an entire side of the mountain. It grows several inches a year. The water melting from the glacier is the largest source of the Moon River and Crescent Lake.
Burudyne Forest
This expansive forest covers the southernmost part of the continent, and hides a number of things, the Ruins of Arcadia, and Revitalizing Pond, and possibly other things. This is one of the few parts of Garuna untouched by war, and it is sought for it’s safety.
Ruins of Arcadia
The most ancient ruins in Garuna, this place tells of the past and how Garuna came to be. The text found on the walls is ancient, and oddly resembles the Unknown that have recently appeared. There is dispute if the text is carved by humans or…something else…
Revitalizing Pond
This beautiful pond is hidden in the forest, and is said to have healing powers. Any Pokémon or human said to bathe here will be healed of all ailments.
